Renys Saco
After opening in Biddeford in 1986, Renys moved to Saco – originally called Pepperellborough – in 2005. This York County city got its current name in 1805 and grew into a center for lumbering, textile manufacturing, brickyards, and more.
With log drives on the Saco River, seventeen sawmills at Saco Falls, and manufacturing – of bricks, textiles, harnesses and more – flourishing on Factory Island, Saco grew into a busy industrial center. Now, Saco’s historic architecture, including old brick buildings on Factory Island and Federal, Georgian and Victorian style buildings remind residents of its rich history. The Laurel Hill Cemetery, established in 1844, is one of the oldest examples of the rural cemetery movement.
Today, Saco is part of Main Street Maine, and has undergone a downtown revitalization. The city remains a great place to enjoy Maine adventure, with nearby Old Orchard Beach and plenty of camping, locally harvested seafood, and seasonal attractions like Funtown/Splashtown.
