Madison, founded in 1804, is named after United States President James Madison. Its historic sites include the Madison Public Library, one of many such libraries across the USA built with funds from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation, and the Lakewood Summer Theatre – Maine’s official summer theatre and the oldest continually operating summer theatre in America.
