Bangor, Maine is known as the Queen City, the home of author Stephen King, and now- home to the newest Renys! In 2024, we're bringing the Maine adventure to the seat of Penobscot County in celebration of our 75th anniversary.

Bangor, Maine's third-largest city, was incorporated in 1834. In 1848, the first commercial chewing gum was invented in Bangor. Later, Bangor and neighboring Brewer, the hometown of Joshua L. Chamberlain, mustered the first Maine regiment to join the Civil War, earning the area's place in history. In the 1800s, Bangor became the world's largest lumber port, with 150 sawmills operating along the Penobscot. Shipping and manufacturing grew over the years, but the Great Fire of 1911 took its toll on Bangor, claiming hundreds of buildings, including homes; houses of worship, and public buildings.

In the century-plus that followed, Bangor has rebuilt stronger than ever. Today, it's home to numerous colleges, a vibrant downtown, and even an international airport. Enjoy the Bangor State Fair during a summer visit, try snowshoeing in the winter, or visit a historic site like nearby Fort Knox.
